Holiday Hoopla Top Freshman
Written by Brennan Lewis
The Holiday Hoopla brought in loads of talent from all around the state. With that, we got to see a good amount of the class of 2028 shine. NOTE: Maurice Hamrick Jr. is not on this list because he is in a previous article.

Kypton Norris | 6’0 G | 2028 | Hilliard Bradley
Norris’ IQ and skills are way beyond his age. Kypton took control early in the second half and lead the charge for the Jaguars against Ursuline. He’s a smooth lefty who can handle it, but right now as a freshman his best quality is his shot. Once his body matures he’s going to be one of the premier prospects in Ohio.

Jayden Reed-Davis | 6’2 F | 2028 | Hilliard Bradley
Reed-Davis is the second freshman to start for Bradley. Quite the opposite of Norris, Reed-Davis’ is physically ready for the varsity game, but still has some skills to work on. He was able to put some points up including a couple of threes. He’s also one of the better defenders on Bradley. A player like him was refreshing to see.

Hudson Edwards | 6’1 G | 2028 | Logan
We got to see Edwards in the very first game of Hoopla, and he impressed. Logan stuck with Columbus West but wasn’t able to come out with the W. Edwards’ go-to is the three, and he moved well off the ball to get open and knocked a few down. He’s already got good size, so he should be a stock riser for years to come.

Mekhi Roddy | 6’0 G | 2028 | Reynoldsburg
Although Roddy, didn’t have his best showing at Hoopla, he will probably end up being the highest ranked 2028 prospect there. Roddy is currently a role piece to the four division one prospect on Reynoldsburg. He can throw lobs or finish them, which is impressive for a freshman guard. He’s a speedster who will only continue to develop.

Mekhi Asberry | 5’11 G | 2028 | Richmond Heights
Asberry came off the bench and knocks down a clutch three for Richmond in a close win over Northland. He looks to be a future 3 and D counter guard for the Spartans. Richmond Heights loses a good amount of seniors this year, so the focus will move to him and a couple others in his class. He should only continue to grow.

Xavier Jones | 6’3 G | 2028 | Westerville South
Jones is one of a couple of the Wildcats’ go-to players. His size and ability to score got him inserted into Westerville’s starting lineup. Jones’ mid range game really stuck out as he was able to find a spot and knock it down. The Cats need someone to step up in Kruz McClure’s absence and Jones and MVP of the game Amari Hodges did that in a loss vs. Lutheran West. Once he refines his game a little more he will be one of the better players in Central Ohio.
